Local legend says that notorious mobster Al Capone hid at the springs, which still bears the remnants of the resort that was burned down in the 1930s. To get to the park go east on Hwy 260 and turn right at Forest Service Rd. 708, which is marked with a sign saying "Fossil Creek and Verde Road".
